Ishmael Perin recently donned his badge as the new deputy for the Powder River County Sheriff's Department. Perin began work on December 20th, having worked previously in corrections for Lawrence County in Deadwood, SD.
We sat down with Ishmael last week to learn a little more about the charming young man. Perin grew up in an Air Force family, living in areas such as Florida and more recently in Wyoming. He also attended college at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, and is currently serving as a soldier in the South Dakota Army National Guard.
Ishmael's sense of duty not only led him to serve in the National Guard, it also acts as a driving force in his decision to enter law enforcement. "Service is what provides my motivation," he told us.
In his leisure time, Ishmael enjoys being outside, shooting his bow and mountain biking.
Perin is slated to attend the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, and in the meantime is accompanying current Sheriff's Department Deputies in the field.
Currently the department has four deputies on staff, including Perin.
Ishmael spoke of his new position: "I'm happy to be here and doing my best to serve the community as a deputy. I look forward to meeting everyone, and thanks for accepting me into the community."
