Do you have a favorite charity? Do you need motivation to get out and walk? Then enter a team in the Steps for Charity challenge organized by Powder River Trails and the Powder River County MSU Extension Office. The 8-week challenge runs from February 1st through March 31st. Four people make up a team and local charities receive part of the $15.00 per person registration fee.
Last year, more than 130 people registered for the Challenge, and over $2,000 was raised for local charities including the Powder River Senior Center, the Broadus Cancer Fund and the Amanda Gaskill Spray and Neuter Fund. Additionally, each charity was recognized in weekly newsletters and articles to increase awareness about the important charitable work done by local people.
The rules are as follows:
1) Four people to a team;
2) Entry fee per person is $15, or $60 per team;
3) Submit total weekly steps to the Extension Office;
4) The three top teams with the most steps will choose which charities will receive the pool of money: 1st place receives 50%, 2nd place receives 30%, and 3rd place receives 20% of the entry fees.
5) If a team member is 70 years of age or older, the steps count extra. See the entry form for details.
The registration deadline is Wednesday, February 1st. Pedometers to track steps are available at the Extension Office. Join the fun, and contact the Powder River County Extension Office at 436-2424, to register or go to the Powder River Trails website at http://www.powderrivertrails.com.
