On Monday night the Town Council passed the second and final reading of its new “ordinance on community decay”, which will go into effect on January 20th of 2023. The new ordinance updates the previous ordinance from 2010, and deals with junk, rubble, and debris found in the town. The ordinance covers a wide range of junk – some examples include junk vehicles, old appliances, tires, cardboard, and a host of other unsightly items. If a resident is found to be in violation of the policy, fines for first time offenses run up to $300.
The full text from the ordinance is available at the town office for viewing, and in the near future a town website is expected to be up and running, which will feature the myriad of town ordinances for viewing by the public, as well as fee schedules, information on town meetings, and a variety of other info. The town currently has a Facebook page up and running - look up “Town of Broadus”.
