TOWN OF BROADUS
Regular Council Meeting
September 6, 2022 @ 6:00 pm
Present were Mayor Chad Gatlin, Councilperson Lori Turnbough, Councilperson Raevyn Slovek, Councilperson Cody Morris, Public Works Cassidy Zimmer, Public Works Raymond Ragsdale and Clerk Peggy Fruit.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor Gatlin called the meeting to order. Councilperson Turnbough moved to approve the minutes as submitted by Clerk Fruit. Councilperson Slovek seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Preliminary Budget hearing for 2022-2023 was opened at 6:00 pm. No one appeared to speak for or against the proposed budget. Clerk Fruit recommended reviewing the water base rate in January to see if it will be adequate for the amount of expenses to that account. Clerk Fruit also recommended putting $2.00 charge on all solid waste accounts to help cover fuel costs until the cost of fuel goes down. This can also be added to the January billing cycle. Clerk Fruit reminded everyone to do the proper postings prior to any increases. Preliminary Budget Hearing 2022-2023 was closed at 7:00 pm. Councilperson Turnbough moved to approve the following budget resolutions for 2022-2023: 2022-01, 2022-02, 2022-03, 2022-04, 2022-05, 2022-06. Councilperson Morris seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Public Works Ragsdale reported Pace had been here to flush and clean all sewer service lines. They will return to camera lines at a later date since they ran out of time. Fire hydrant was moved from library corner to the corner by the fire hall, water break in the main by the Evergreen apartments has been fixed, continued general maintenance at the lagoon is being done, has added radio reading of water meters to the ARPA money projects, have a large water sample going in and will take it directly to the testing lab, and Raymond will be paid as Fire Warden.
Public Works Zimmer reported that Donna and Cooper have done an amazing job keeping up on the mowing, patching continues, lots of weed spraying, installed bumper stops at the South end of park, used four loads of asphalt this year, and the curb and gutter project came together nicely.
Mayor Gatlin read the letter of resignation from Clerk Fruit to the Council effective September 30, 2022. Following discussion it was agreed to advertise in the Powder River Examiner to fill the position.
Claims were reviewed and approved by Council.

Broadus Town Council
Regular Meeting
October 4, 2022 6:00 pm
Present were Mayor Chad Gatlin, Councilperson Lori Turnbough, Councilperson Wanda Smith, Councilperson Cody Morris, Public Works Raymond Ragsdale, Clerk Peggy Fruit and guest Seth Knowles.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor Gatlin called the meeting to order. Councilperson Turnbough moved to approve the minutes as submitted by Clerk Fruit. Councilperson Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Seth Knowles discussed the amount of goat heads on the walking path. Mr. Knowles would spray the weed if the Town provided him with the solutions needed to spray the weeds. Clerk Fruit will order the high concentration of vinegar he needs and the other items he can charge to the Town of Broadus at Grant's Hardware. Mayor and Council thanked him for his time.
Public Works Ragsdale replaced four water meters, will be attending a conference call about ARPA funding and the monies the Town of Broadus is trying to receive, working on lagoon discharge permit with the Department of Environmental Qualities will meet with DEQ in Helena on Thursday to finish the permit application, and the Floodplain designates he is working with are applying for another survey which will take in Belle Creek, Little Powder and Powderville, the Town of Broadus won't be affected. PW Ragsdale reported this area will be getting a new Fire Marshall and will update when person is selected.
Mayor and Council signed the Interlocal Law Enforcement Agreement with the county.
No decisions have been made on the selling of fireworks within the town limits at this time will discuss at a later date.
Clerk Fruit continues to fill in occasionally until a new clerk is hired.
