Broadus Town Council Minutes

TOWN OF BROADUS

Regular Council Meeting

December 6, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

Present was Mayor Chad Gatlin, Councilperson Lori Turnbough, Councilperson Raevyn Slovek, Public Works Raymond Ragsdale, Clerk Josie Morris, Guest Sheriff Devin Boman.

Mayor Gatlin called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor Gatlin asked if anyone had questions on the previous meetings minutes; with no questions the meeting proceeded.

Mayor Gatlin informed the council that he had been communicating with Sheriff Boman on having a united front when it comes to enforcing town ordinances, parking laws, etc. Next, Mayor Gatlin addressed the unfinished business regarding fireworks within town limits. It was decided that the VFW wishes to hold on to their authority to sell, however, they do not have the manpower and resources at this time to take on the task. They are willing to give permission to someone else to sell fireworks within town limits. Mayor Gatlin and Sheriff Boman gave permission to Kurt and Cassie Copps for the sale of fireworks this coming year.

New business began with the first reading of the new ordinance on community decay; a second reading will be held by the council on December 19, 2022 at 6 pm to finalize and sign the ordinance. This meeting is open to the public as all meetings are.

The next item on the agenda was a letter from Mary Irion Smith asking the Town to sell her the right away next to her property, however it is not the town’s policy to sell right away land. Her inquiry with us is appreciated but at this time, the mayor and council will not honor her request for sale of right away. A letter was sent out informing her of the mayor and council’s decision as well as thanking her for making an inquiry with the council.

PW Ragsdale addressed PACE Construction having been in town to camera the sewer lines; it was noted that no replacement of lines is needed and the camera system allowed them to determine precise locations of all taps. He also addressed the ARPA application being in the final stages of approval to grant the Town funding for water and sewer updates among other items yet to be determined based on amount of funding received. Public Works Ragsdale left the meeting at 6:54 pm.

PW Zimmer was not in attendance.

Claims for November and December were presented to the council and signed. Claims are available at the Town Office if anyone would like to view them.

With no further business before the Council, councilperson Morris moved to adjourn. Councilperson Slovek seconded the motion. Mayor Gatlin adjourned this meeting of the Broadus Town Council at 7:12 pm. Chad Gatlin, Mayor, Josie Morris, Clerk
