Weather did not hinder the seventeen Broadus High School students who were selected to participate in Montana's District 10 Honor Band and Choir on November 14th and 15th. Two days of intense rehearsals were held at Hardin High School, Hardin, MT with the culmination of a combined concert on Tuesday night. Mr. Scott Corey, a long time Montana music educator, was the guest conductor for the choir and Mr. Joe Sutton, veteran music teacher, was guest conductor of the band.
Band students selected were: Seniors: Marcus Mader-percussion, Alex Edwards-trombone, Sophie Irish-trumpet, Junior: James Augare-trombone, Soph-omores: Zoe Page-clarinet, Talyn Conley-bass clarinet, Zach Jones-alto saxophone, Archer Edwards-alto saxophone, Becca Aye-baritone saxophone, Riley Mitchell-baritone saxophone, Freshmen: Kensi Emmons-flute and Reuben Kinzer-trumpet.
The conductor's selection of music for the band included Estampie by W. Francis McBeth, Crown Imperial ar-ranged by Jay Bocook, Space and Beyond arranged by John Moss and The Washington Post March arranged by Brion/ Schissel.
Choir students were: Seniors: Lyza McMullan-Soprano, Michaley Knapp and Mercy Brost-Altos, Sophomores: Emory Gatlin-Soprano and Jackson Knapp-Bass. Miss Knapp was also selected to perform a solo in Please Stay.
Choir conductor selections included Come to the Music by Joseph M. Martin, Bashana Haba 'ah arranged by John Leavitt, Please Stay by Montana native Jake Runestad, and Jabberwocky arranged by Sam Pottle.
Unlike Montana sports districts, the music districts are comprised of all classes of schools. Schools in District 10 are Class A-Hardin and Miles City, Class B-Colstrip, Forsyth, St. Labre, and Lame Deer, Class C-Plevna, Hysham, Rosebud, Ekalaka, Jordan and Broadus.
A big thank you to bus driver, Ernie Reaves, for getting us there and back safely in some questionable driving conditions.
