The agenda for the November School Board meeting was not overly heavy on Monday evening, providing an opportunity for board members to drive home before roads became too bad from the lingering snowstorm, which would close down Hwy 212 over the night.
Board members present at the meeting included Shasta Madsen, Lori Fortner, Rob Jones, Waylon Billing, Jay Schroeder, and Danny Johnson present via phone call.
One new high school student was admitted, and there were no transportation contracts.
The board voted on and accepted one resignation and the hiring of several volunteer coaches, pending their background checks. Longtime teacher and coach Jerry Coulter tendered his resignation, effective at the end of the school year. Volunteer coaches hired for wrestling included Jim Kolka, Garrett Goggins, and Wyatt Williams, while Steve Graff will be a volunteer coach for basketball.
With Trustee Lori Fortner’s election win as PR County Commissioner, a replacement for her position on the School Board is needed. The board briefly discussed the matter; there has been interest from one individual and an application will be provided.
The final agenda item for the evening was the approval of payment of membership dues to the Montana School Board Association, which provides guidance across Montana on school district policies, legal issues, advocation for boards in the legislature, and also offers an insurance program.
