October Weather Was Pleasant

The weather for October in and around Powder River County was generally mild and warm, with a shot of moisture around opening weekend of the general deer/elk season.

Broadus received 0.65" of moisture in October, with 0.42" of that total recorded on October 24th. The high for the month in Broadus was 81, on October 20th, and the low was 23, on the 27th. The moisture total was 0.47" below average, The record high on October 20th was 86, in 1947.

The Biddle 8 miles SW station had a high for the month of 80 on the 20th, and a low of 23 on the 28th. That station received 1.5" of snow on October 24th, and a total of 0.65" of precipitation on the month. That total falls short of the average monthly total of 1.35".

The Moorhead 9 miles NE station had a high of 80 on the 20th, and a low of 22 on the 27th. That station had 2.0" of snow recorded on the 24th, and a total of 0.73" of moisture on the month, compared to an average of 1.11".

The Sonnette 7 miles SW station had a high for the month of 77 on the 20th, and recorded the low for the month in this area, with 17 degrees on the 27th. On the 27th, 0.62" of moisture was recorded. That station had 1.11" of precip in October, compared to an average of 1.38".

The Fort Howes RAWS station had a high of 80 on the 20th, and a low of 22 on both the 27th and 28th. The station recorded 0.66" of precip in October, with 0.58" recorded October 23rd. The Fort Howes station had a relatively calm month in regards to wind speed, with only nine days recording speeds of 30 or more mph. The highest gust of the month was 38, on October 20th.

Volborg was the wettest station in the area in October, with 1.12" of moisture on the month.

The Powderville 8 miles NNE station had highs of 78 on both October 5th and the 20th, and a low for the month of 22, on October 30th. That station had 0.92" of precip on the month, with a trace of snow on the 24th. This compares to a normal of 1.16" of moisture and 1.7" of snow.

The mild trend continued through the first nine days of November, with cold and snow then entering the picture. The Powderville 8 miles NNE station had a low of -16, on Veteran's Day, November 11th.
