The Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team continued to take out the competition over the weekend as they traveled to Savage and at home against Circle, in matchups which they could see again in tournament season.
The Lady Hawks led off the weekend on Friday against the Savage Lady Warriors. Broadus Coach Gordon Archer informed us that Savage is currently ranked 3rd in their conference, and with five teams going from that conference to the Divisional tournament, Broadus could very well see them again in the future.
"I think we surprised them in the first game," Archer commented as the Lady Hawks won 25-14. "They didn't let go and came back to beat us in the second game," he said, with Savage winning the second game 23-25.
To the Lady Hawks' credit, the girls didn't let the loss set them back – instead they returned with fire in their souls as they handily trounced Savage in the third 25-13.
Archer noted that neither team played as well as they should've in the fourth, but Broadus had enough skill and heart to secure a win and take the match, 25-22.
"Overall it was nice seeing how we stacked up against the other conference," Gordon said.
Lauryn Billing had a great night serving the ball against Savage, going 23 for 23 on serves, while also contributing 25 assists.
Mia Mader had 19 digs, and Zeason Schaffer 20 kills and 4 blocks.
On Saturday, Broadus hosted the tough Circle Lady Wildcats, a team which came down with a plan to counteract the tough Broadus offense, particularly the high speed spikes of Zeason Schaffer.
Circle's plan centered around blocking Schaffer, and they had some success with the plan, particularly in the first set as Broadus fell behind 8-0.
Once again, as has been the case this season, Broadus roared back and kept the first game close, with Circle winning 25-21. The Lady Hawks seemed to gain strength as the night progressed, taking the next three games 25-13, 25-17, and 25-16 to win the match and continue their undefeated streak for the season.
This Thursday the Lady Hawks host Ekalaka, which will also be Senior Night, held before the varsity warm ups.
On Saturday, Broadus will face a big test at Jordan, and then finish out their regular season next week as the JV plays Forsyth (this was originally scheduled as a varsity game but that has changed); their final regular season match will be on the 20th at Wibaux.
