Hawk Football Team Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

A beautiful fall day greeted fans and players last Saturday as the Hawks hosted the St. Labre Braves.

The game quickly turned the Hawks' direction in the first drive, as the Broadus defense pushed the St. Labre offense back to nearly the goal line. On the next play, Eli Heacock intercepted the pass and Broadus was in business from inside the defender's 20 yard line. Two nice runs from Broadus QB Matt Hansen led off the Hawk offensive drive, and a Hansen pitch to Eli Heacock put the Hawks up 6-0.

From there on out the Hawks dominated the game, racking up 66 points while allowing 0 points. Stats from the game were a bit jumbled, so we are waiting on clarification on several points before printing. Regardless of specific stats, the Hawks had a solid day on offense, defense, and special teams, and the Hawks were able to try out a different offensive line setup.

"Our offense looked sharper as the game progressed, and the O line was able to maintain their assignments and have a good game," Broadus Head Coach Wyatt Williams commented on the win.

Broadus now enters their final week of the regular season, where they will travel to Forsyth this Saturday to face the Dogies. If Broadus hopes to continue into the playoffs, they must beat Forsyth.

With a Broadus win and a Park City loss to Joliet this weekend (which is likely), Broadus would place third, or if Broadus were to win by 8 or more points Broadus could potentially place second in the conference. In either winning outcome the Hawks would advance to a playoff game, as three teams from the conference move on to playoffs.

A Forsyth win and Park City loss ensures the Dogies second place behind Joliet (currently ranked 7th in the state with a 4-0 conference record). Park City would then place third.

Regardless of potential standings, Broadus still needs to win the game. "We just need to do our job." Williams commented.

Forsyth is reported to be a fast, athletic team that is expected to throw the ball well, and will present a challenge for a Hawk team recovering from injury.

Broadus' Cooper Zimmer is out for the season with concussion, and Duke Blankenship is also out with a concussion. Reuben Kinzer is expected to return from injury this week to help fortify the Hawks' line, and Riggin Schaffer may return to the team if doctor's clear him to play.
