Record High Temps Set In September

The weather in September was hot, with temperatures trending 5 degrees above normal for the month in Broadus. Record daily highs were recorded on three days, from the 7th through the 9th, with highs of 106, 105, and 101 on successive days.

The 67.4 degree monthly mean temperature was also a record in Broadus; the previous record came in 2015, with an average temperature of 66.9.

Broadus received 1.20” of rain in September, close to the normal monthly precip of 1.23”, with records going back to 1920. Rain showers were distributed throughout the second and fourth weeks of the month, with the earliest precip falling on September 8th at 0.35”, and showers between 0.12” and 0.28” occurring between the 8th and the 23rd.

Broadus did not see a freezing temperature in September. The low for the month was 37, on the 10th. This meant that between a one day span between the 101 high on the 9th and the 37 degree low on the 10th, the station saw an impressive 64 degree change in temperature.

The Biddle 8 miles SW station had a high of 104 on the 7th and a low of 38 on the 10th. That station received 1.52” of moisture in September, compared to an average of 1.29. 0.61” of that total fell on the 16th. The Biddle SW station had three record daily highs broken in September, with the 104 on the 7th, a 101 on the 8th, and a high of 88 on the 20th.

The monthly high at the Moorhead 9 miles NE station was 105 on the 7th, and the monthly low 37, on the 11th. The station had 1.52” of moisture in September, compared to an average of 1.05”. 0.77” of that total fell on the 9th.

At the Moorhead NE station the 105 degree high on the 7th was the only daily record high broken in September.

The Sonnette 7 miles SW station had a high for the month of 102, and was the only station in the area to hit freezing, as the mercury dipped to 32 on the 10th. That station had 1.87” of moisture in September, with 1.09” (which just happens to be the normal monthly total) recorded on the 17th.

The 102 degree high recorded on the 7th was the sole daily record high for the month at this station.

The Volborg station received a lovely 1.03” of moisture on September 17th, with 1.55” in total for the month.

The Powderville 8 miles NNE station had a high for the month of 106 on the 7th and a low of 35 on the 10th, and received 0.71” of moisture in total. The normal monthly precip at that station is 1.25”.

Record daily highs were recorded at the Powderville NNE station on the 7th and 8th, with a 106 and a 102.

Temps in early October have thus far been mild, with light rain accumulations in Broadus.
