Letters To The Editor

As some of you know, this is my second summer at the Powder River Chamber’s Visitors Center.

A couple of days ago, a fellow stopped in, lip curled in a sneer, and announced that “Broadus is sure a funky little town.”

Broadus is my town, so I gave him my dead fish eye look, and he quickly backtracked.

But Broadus is indeed a junky town, thanks to the efforts of a handful of folks. Their dereliction has an adverse affect on our entire community, with piles of broken down junky vehicles strewn about for everyone to witness.

I remember some years ago, when the Town Council forced Millard LaFlamme to build a ten foot fence around his property. He was on a fixed income too.

The council for some reason appears reluctant to do much about any of the junk piles. I queried the new mayor, and he said the neighbors might have to sue, claiming a devaluation of their property.

I think about all of the good people who keep their yards up, through no little labor, and it seems like they’re being slapped in the face. I often see neighbor Dick Sturtz, who is up in his eighties, on his hands and knees, attacking any weed that shows it’s face on their immaculate yard.

I would urge anyone and everyone to call the mayor and or council to voice their concerns. Or better yet, take photos and share them at a meeting of the council.

Thank you,

Joe Stuver
