Over 37 hand-made and home-made items were auctioned through the 4-H Silent Auction held during the Powder River County Fair last week. Leather key chains made by Zach Jones, a sheep fitting stand welded by Lea Aye, a corn hole game built by Justin Aye and a hand-stitched leather purse by Colton Jones received top bids. Over $1,854 was raised for the youth who entered the item.
The 4-H Silent Auction is the brainchild of 4-H alumnus Tyler Gardner, who felt that non-livestock exhibitors needed a way to recoup the costs incurred while creating their 4-H projects. Parents, grandparents and friends also benefit by having the opportunity to take home a memento of the 4-H member’s work.
“It’s a great way for members to develop their entrepreneurship skills. They test the waters for what might sell,” explained Superintendent, Meghan Phillippi.
