Broadus Team Wins Bronze At Big Sky State Games

Members of the Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team played in the Big Sky State Games 11th and 12th grade age division volleyball tournament at the Big Sky State Games last week, earning bronze medals for their third place showing at the annual event.

Teams from as far away as Butte, along with teams from Billings and other Eastern Montana rural towns competed in the event, which led off with a two game pool play format, then progressed to a normal tournament styled bracket once the brackets were decided in pool play.

The Broadus players initially beat Butte, Chinook, and the Billings Senior Black squad in all games, winning six sets in a row to win the pool and find their placing in the "gold" bracket.

Broadus then entered the double elimination tournament against teams from Joliet, two teams from both Skyview and Senior in Billings, Baker, and Park City.

Broadus led off with a win against Senior Black, 2 games to 1, followed by a loss to Joliet 2 sets to 0. Broadus then beat Baker and Senior Black again in a set to 25. This put Broadus into another match with Joliet in the Bronze Medal Match, which Joliet won in a close game, 25-20. Senior's Orange Squad took first overall, with Joliet placing second.

Competitors and coaches from Broadus included Graci Barbero, Aspen Krantz, Ciara McDowell, Mia Mader, Lauryn Billing, Zeason Schaffer, Oliveah Schaffer and Coaches Gordon Archer and Melissa Billing.
