Is the tree in your yard a conifer or deciduous? Does it have leaves with smooth margins or needle-like leaves? The Arbor Day Tree Guide helps figure it all out.
On May 25th, Liz Riter with Powder River Conservation District (PRCD), Sarah Fortner (PRCD), and Corey Swenson with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) retired, taught the 4th grade students how to identify trees.
A video was presented explaining different parts of the trees so students could be a sleuth and figure out which tree they saw.
We went on a walk around the school and the neighborhood looking for different trees. The clues were followed in the Arbor Day Guide until each one was identified. The students got really good at finding the clues so they could quickly identify each tree.
