VFW/Auxiliary provided students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade a coloring contest page. This year’s picture was a wreath of Buddy Poppies surrounding a phrase, “Lest We Forget”.
The Powder River County school district students did a very good job this year. It was not an easy job to judge these for the 3 places in each grade. The top three in each grade level were sent to state Auxiliary to be judged for the state contest.
Winners at the local level for grades 2nd- Kindergarten are as follows: 2nd Grade: Senra Gnerer, 1st; Sophie Ostendorf, 2nd; Griffin Gardner, 3rd. 1st Grade: Dolly Randall, 1st; Ryder Ostendorf, 2nd; Sawyer Ostendorf, 3rd. Kindergarten: Evelyn Gnerer, 1st; Nicolas Bowers, 2nd; Tizer Barnhart, 3rd. At the state level Kindergarten student Evelyn Gnerer won 1st prize.
Buddy Chairperson Pat Hanlan presented each student and their teacher with a candy kiss for participating in the coloring contest. The first, second and third place winners were presented with small gifts and corresponding medals. In Kindergarten, Evelyn Gnerer won at the state level and was given a bag full of goodies. The Poppy Chairperson presented a patriotic cowboy boot piggy bank and stuck a $5.00 bill in the bank to begin her savings account. That brought on a very large smile from the winner.
Molly Lloyd was there taking pictures and helping with the awards.
It was fun to see the smiles on the student’s faces and the Poppy Chairperson would like to thank teachers for the cooperation they provided to let the students participate in this year’s Poppy Coloring Contest.
