The “MontANTa” scavenger hunt is underway as part of the 11th Annual Red Ants Pants Music Festival and we’re excited to announce that Broadus is part of the itinerary this year!
The Red Ants Pants Music Festival, founded by Red Ants Pants owner Sarah Calhoun in 2011, is a program of the 501(c)(3) Red Ants Pants Foundation. What started as a small business venture making women’s work pants, grew into a charitable foundation that is dedicated to women’s leadership, working family farms and ranches, and rural communities. The now massive music festival draws up to 18,000 visitors a year to the small community of White Sulphur Spring with proceeds funding rural grants, workshops and women’s leadership programs.
Each year the festival fun starts with the MontANTa scavenger hunt which highlights and celebrates rural communities in Montana. Five giant hand-sewn ant flags are “hidden” in small towns across the state. Road trippers are invited to search for ant flags this year in Absarokee, Broadus, Haugan, Stanford and White Sulphur Springs. Participants who are able to take photos with two of the five “Red” banners across the state and share are entered to win a VIP festival prize package valued at over $1,000.
Local area resident and museum board member Kate Ruland won the art competition to produce the official Red Ants Pants Music Festival poster in 2021. Since then, she’s been dying to get us a Red Ant flag and applied on behalf of the Powder River Historical Museum. We’re honored that our community was selected this year and excited to see how many visitors the hunt brings to Broadus!
