HS Golf Competes At Divisionals

Girls Team Wins Historic First Place

"It was a cold, cold, windy, rainy, miserable day," commented Head Golf Coach Chad Gatlin on the Divisional Golf Tournament, held Monday in Sidney. "But the kids played really good for the conditions," he added.

The kids did indeed play incredibly well, as Emma Isaacs placed second overall for the girls, bringing home a silver medal for her individual performance by golfing a 99. Graci Barbero shot a 104 for fourth place, Lea Aye a 105 for sixth place, and Lauryn Billing a 119 for 13th place out of the 37 competitor field.

The 308 combined score for the girls brought home a 1st place team trophy, as they beat Plentywood's 310 second place score. Last year, Plentywood placed 1st as a team at State, Gatlin noted, and this year a strong Manhattan Christian team looks to be the team to beat at the State level for the girls.

Gatlin told us the team title was the first divisional title for the Broadus girls in the first year of Class C divisional play (in former years, individuals qualified in the regular season, then went on to State), and with the excellent scores all four golfers will go on to compete at State as a team.

For the boys, Cooper Zimmer led the charge for Broadus, golfing a 101 and placing 9th. Wyatt Gee golfed a 106 for 17th, followed by Solomon Bradley who also golfed a 106. Colton Biesheuvel placed 21st with a 108.

The boys placed 4th as a team, golfing a 313 total. Mon/Dak took the boys title, golfing a 279.

State Golf will take place in Sidney on the 17th and 18th, with a practice round set for Monday. Gatlin told us that depending on their practice tee time the team may leave Sunday for the tournament.

The recent experience at the windy Sidney course will hopefully prove to be an advantage for the Broadus team, as in previous years tournaments in Seeley Lake and the far western reaches of Montana made for a long drive and unfamiliar courses for eastern teams.
