Following the State Music Festival Broadus High School and Junior High Band members traveled to Dayton, Wyoming last weekend to perform in a unique opportunity alongside members of the Tongue River High School Band and members of The Dallas Brass.

The Dallas Brass is a six person ensemble musical group which has played around the country around the world since their formation in 1983. The group tours the country, and a number of their performances feature the local high school bands, joining as one musical group onstage.

The idea for the concert came about when Broadus Music Teacher Lisa Lynch met up with former Broadus student and current Tongue River High School Band Director Janessa Blain last spring for a performance of the Dallas Brass in Rapid City. An idea was then hatched to have the Broadus and Dayton bands perform with the Dallas Brass.

The group performed "An American Musical Journey" providing a musical travelogue through the history of the US, in their Dayton concert.

On Saturday the band left Billings and traveled to Dayton, where they rehearsed, ate supper provided by the Tongue River School, and then played together that evening.

Blain, daughter of John and Kim Blain of Broadus, commented on the concert in an article previous to the event by The Sheridan Press: "One thing I've appreciated so much about the Dallas Brass is that the main focus of their concerts is empowering students to be great musicians. Mike Levine told me the most important part for them is to impress the importance of the arts and music and let students know this is something they can do for the rest of their lives."

The music department wanted to thank all the parents for their support, John Blain for being the bus driver, Lisa Gaskill, and Kim Blain for accompaniments at the State Music Festival. The Broadus music students would like to thank Janessa Blain, the Tongue River School and all the parents that came to support their students at the concert. Lisa Lynch added: "We hope everyone enjoyed the concert," adding that the Elementary Spring Concert will take place next Thursday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m.
