The Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament is set for April 22nd – 24th. The brackets are even more full than last year, including many local teams signed up! An approximate total of 140 players will hit the Broadus High School court for a weekend full of basketball. The public is invited to attend all three days and enjoy watching the games! Games start on the 22nd at 6pm, 8am on the 23rd and 9am on the 24th. The Liscomb Mountain 4-H Club will be serving concessions and although entrance is free to the games, we will be accepting donations during the tournament. All donations are tax deductible, as the Amanda Gaskill Memorial is a nonprofit 501(c)3. There will also be donation boxes set up for the Dakota Holbrook Fund and the Cale & Caty Emmons – Heads Up Hearts Strong Memorial Fund.
A three-point contest open to the public will start at 12pm Saturday and everyone is welcome to participate! All participants must be entered by 12pm on the 23rd at the registration table at the gym. The fee is $20/entry. Preliminaries open it up with each rack having four balls. There is a 1-minute time limit for shooting. The top 6 preliminary round shooters will advance to the semifinals immediately after the preliminaries. The Three-Point Championship will follow using the same rules, showcasing the top 2 semifinalists. The winner takes home a large YETI cooler and second place receives a small YETI cooler, both donated by Jess Lockwood. The entire proceeds of the Three-Point Contest will be split, half going to the Dakota Holbrook Fund and half to the Heads Up Hearts Strong Memorial Fund.
This year has been more than evident in proving how generous the people who make up this wonderful community really are. Hosting this tournament and providing two $1,000 scholarships to PRCDHS seniors is our way of giving back to those that helped us in many ways when Amanda passed away. We’re so grateful for the participants, community and all who help make this possible to honor her memory. Being able to pay it forward to help one young man and one family, who are both dealing with difficult losses, makes this tournament so much more than about basketball. Join us April 22nd – 24th!
