Powder River Pals are top Steps For Charity Team

By PR Extension Office

Drum roll, please!! The Powder River Pals walked 4.85 million steps in the 8-week Steps for Charity Challenge to win the contest and raise $570 for the Ray Traub Medical fund. Christine Appleman, Kathy and Mike Bowers and Amber Hart averaged 142,000 steps each week or 20,538 steps each day! That's exhausting!! "Ray is a close friend to our team and has suffered from many illnesses and hospitalizations. Because of our desire to help him out, even in this small way, it will help us stay motivated to get more steps!"

The Labradors, who included the Dudek siblings, Hanna, Noah, John and Leo, came in second with 4.75 million steps. They raised $366 for the Ronald McDonald House in Billings, because it helps many families dealing with medical issues.

The race was too close to call as of last Thursday, the final day of the competition, but in the final four days, the Super Troopers inched out the fourth place team by only 23,338 steps with a total of 3.84 million steps. The Super Troopers, who are Kristy and John Elgin and Sherry and Coaly Huckins, chose the Ray Traub medical fund and raised $264 for a most deserving cause.

Over the 2-month period, 73 million steps were walked by 136 participants in the Steps for Charity Challenge. In addition to the awards for the top three places, each of the seventeen charities will receive a portion of the $2,040 raised from the Steps for Charity event. The other charities included Amanda Gaskill Spay & Neuter Fund, Biddle Community Heritage Center, Broadus Cancer Fund, Broadus FFA Chapter, Elementary Book Fair Fund, Erin's Hope Project, Farm Rescue, Kids' Food Bag Foundation, Make A Wish Foundation, Powder River Historical Museum, Powder River Senior Center, Powder River Trails, Vision Beyond Borders, Wes Hinman Medical Fund, and the Wildland Firefighter Foundation

The event is sponsored by the Powder River Trails and the MSU Powder River County Extension Service.
