Robotics, Coding And A Cookie

By Connie Barnhart

Seventh grader, Eli Jurica and eighth grader, Darren VerWolf have been busy this semester during Enrichment class building a Bee-Dee Bot robot and learning to code it to do specific functions.

After the construction process of Bee-Dee, Darren and Eli coded the robot to perform specific challenges such as sending SOS signals with red and green lights, going forward and raising a robotic arm to produce a turning signal.

Next they coded the robot to drive out of a parking spot and through a maze-like garage. The final challenge for Eli and Darren was to code Bee-Dee to follow a line down to the school office and deliver a cookie to school secretary, Pam Andrews. After a lot of problem solving (and development of 21st century coding and engineering skills) Eli and Darren were successful and the cookie was delivered!
