Week 6
It feels like Spring – Steps for Charity
“It should be easier to get steps in this week,” reported Billy Stuver, member Little Lebowski Rural Achievers. “When the weather allows, my mom and teammate, Diane Stuver, walks to substitute teach at the school,” he added.
I’ve walked in the school when it’s cold, but I prefer walking outside, explained Margaret Scoles, team IOIA member, who racked up 12,000 steps during a layover on a recent trip to Portland.
Jackie Walden, The New Forty team member says “send your husband away for a week and do both his chores and yours” if you need ways to get additional steps.
The charities highlighted this week include the Wes Hinman Medical Fund, Ronald McDonald House and Vision Beyond Borders.
The Wes Hinman Medical Fund was a charity chosen by team IOIA and includes John and Jenny Olson, Cil Earley and Margaret Scoles. The team is sponsored by Lazy J Bar O Fencing. The IOIA team chose the charity because local resident Wes Hinman was injured in an accident earlier this year, and his stay at the hospital was expensive.
The Otter Trotters chose Vision Beyond Borders. The Otter Trotters include family siblings Trinity, Shiloh, Esther and Katya Stiegelmeier. The young team chose this charity because it distributes bibles in restricted countries.
Ronald McDonald House was a charity picked by both The Patten Adventurers, who are Grace Cameron and Benjamin, LaTeisha, and Cullen Patten family, and the Labradors, who are Hanna, Noah, John and Leo Dudek, another group of siblings and are sponsored by the Tongue River Crossroads 4-H Club. The teams chose Ronald McDonald house because they help people from rural Montana and the charity helps families in times of need.
Sitting is the new smoking. According to the HeartFoundation.org, over 25% of American adults sit for more than 8 hours every day and watches almost 3 hours of television every day. A 2011 study of 800,000 people found that people who sit the most, compared to people who sit the least, have a greater risk of disease and death. Steps for Charity members are NOT SITTING, they are WALKING.
