Post Office Back Up And Running At Community Center

After a brief hiatus where the Broadus post office found its way into Custer County at Volborg, it has returned to Powder River County. As of Friday, October 22nd, the Broadus PO is now operating out of the community center in Broadus.

Following the wreck into the post office building several weeks back, the post office was moved to the community center and then to Volborg, and has now returned to Broadus.

Hours of operation are from Monday through Friday from 8:30-5, and 8:30-3 with an hour break between 12:30 and 1:30 on Saturday. Mail may be sent at the community center, as well as dropped off at the blue curbside box at the uptown post office, which is checked daily.

Due to the need for personnel to be on hand to give out mail at the community center because of the lack of locked PO Boxes, mail will not be available for pickup outside the hours listed above.

We spoke to USPS Communications Specialist Ernie Swanson from Seattle on Monday about the situation, and he told us that repairs to the former post office were expected to take 30-45 days, but did not have a date on when construction might begin.

Swanson also mentioned that the mobile postal unit where one might conduct postal service business was not yet in operation; USPS tech folks were planning on securing a phone line and whatever else is needed to make that operable at the community center.

Additionally, due to the mobile unit not yet being set up at the time of writing (October 25th) anything that needs a transaction to be completed will still need to be done via an online purchase, or taken to a different post office such as Biddle, Boyes, or Ashland to purchase postage.
