The Lady Hawk Cross Country team competed at several events over the last few weeks, including Lockwood, Miles City, and Colstrip.
Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons commented on the race at Lockwood on September 25th: "Lockwood was the most brutal course we've ran. It was a four lap course and two of the laps had a hill that even the varsity boys had to walk up bent over pushing on their knees. To make it even more challenging it was 91° when the girls ran! Even though it was such a hot day and hard course, it's days like this when I know the girls get stronger. They can look back at this day and be so proud of what they accomplished!"
The event featured runners taking off in different stages. In the Varsity 3 race, Rachel Rasmussen placed fourth with a 24:12.18. Rebecca Rasmussen placed 13th in the Varsity 4 race, with a 29:36.63.
At Miles City on October 2nd, Rachel placed 34th with a 22:39.69, with Rebecca coming in with a 25:14.94 against a stiff field of competition.
On October 7th in Colstrip, Mercy Brost returned to the team after sickness had sidelined her for several races. Rachel broke her personal record as well as the Broadus school record with an 8th place finish and 22:28.81 run. Rebecca also had a personal record with a 24:37.19, and Ashley noted that Mercy did awesome for her first race back, and will be back where she needs to be to compete at State in two weeks; a time for Mercy's run was not published on the results website.
This Thursday the competitors will run at Joliet, and then it's on to the State Cross Country Meet in Missoula, on Saturday, October 23rd. All three runners have qualified to compete at state.
