Lady Hawks Win Two On The Road

The Lady Hawk Volleyball team went on the road last weekend, defeating Terry and Ekalaka in three straight sets per match.

Speaking of the Terry and Ekalaka matches, Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer said: "We had a pretty good weekend of volleyball. The girls played strong and relaxed, and against Terry we hit and passed the best we have all year, though maybe we got a little too relaxed when it came to serving, and dropped a few we shouldn't have."

The Lady Hawks beat the Lady Terriers 25-16, 25-7, and 25-14, with Lauryn Billing and Aspen Krantz both going 12 for 12 on serves, and Lauryn contributing 17 assists. Emma Isaacs was 14 for 15 on passes with six digs. Oliveah Schaffer led the team in kills with nine, while Zeason Schaffer and Abi Krantz both had eight kills a piece.

On Saturday, the Lady Hawks played at Ekalaka, with Archer noting that the girls are really coming along with their gameplay as a team, working with each other and communicating to bring their game to that next level of competition.

The Lady Hawks won handily, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-20.

Lauryn Billing went 18 for 19 on serves, with 17 assists and a kill, Mia Mader was 11 for 11 on serves with two kills, and Zeason Schaffer was 16 for 16 on serves, with eight digs, four kills, and two blocks. Abi Krantz had an impressive 16 kills in the match.

The Lady Hawks hosted St. Labre on Tuesday for a non-conference match, which occurred between when we went to press and the paper hit newsstands; we will have stats from that match next week.

This Saturday the Lady Hawks head back to Carter County for the Ekalaka Invite, featuring teams from around the conference. Depending on seeding on how the tournament progresses, Broadus may see Jordan or Circle on the other side of the net - the only teams Broadus has lost to this season, and the Lady Hawks are looking to even the score.

The Lady Hawks are currently 7-2 in conference play. Circle sits at 8-0, and Jordan at 5-1. Ekalaka trails Broadus at 3-4, with Terry and Wibaux both at 2-5, and Plevna at 0-8.
