Hawk Football Wins At Lodge Grass

Hawk Football traveled to Lodge Grass last Friday to take on the Indians. Broadus scored quickly, on a one yard run from Johnny Richards, followed by a fumble recovery and return for a touchdown by Corbin Irish to put the Hawks up 13-0.

Penalties plagued both sides throughout the game, particularly holding penalties in the first half on the Hawks. Broadus was still able to lead going into the half, 13-6, and in the second half the penalty calls seemed to subside, particularly as Broadus pulled away from Lodge Grass.

In the third quarter, Johnny Richards' skills as a running back were on full display, as he ran for three touchdowns in the third quarter alone, including long TD runs of 52 and 30 yards.

Richards ran for an impressive seven touchdowns in the game, averaging 10.7 yards per rush, and totaling 246 yards on the ground.

"The offensive line really did a good job in the third quarter to help us pull ahead," Broadus Head Coach Ross Randall commented on the work done by the line to assure Richards' success.

The Hawks' offensive onslaught was simply overwhelming in the second half, as Richards runs, along with a passing attack from Wyatt Gee put the Indians on their heels. Gee threw for 158 yards on the night, completing 14 of 19 passes for 74% completion rating, and a longest completion on the night of 47 yards to Corbin Irish.

The Hawks put up a total of 433 yards of offense to the Indians' 189 in the 52-20 Hawk win.

Broadus now sits at fourth in the conference with a 3-3 overall record, and 2-2 conference record.

Standout performances on the defensive side of the ball for the Hawks were numerous: "The whole defense really stepped up and did a good job," Randall noted.

Jaxon Bilbrey had two interceptions in the game, while Solomon Bradley played well in the defensive backfield, causing four pass deflections. These performances, along with three sacks by Broadus players, made a tough night for the Lodge Grass passing game, as they completed only 8 of 27 attempts, for a 30% completion percentage.

Broadus hosts Fairview this Friday, where the Hawks will face the #1 team in the sub-conference. The varsity game will begin at 7 pm.

The Hawks go into the final regular season game with a couple injuries to report – Colton Biesheuvel suffered a vertebrae injury and will be out the remainder of the season, and Dakota Holbrook injured his ribs; his status for this Friday's game is unknown.

Next week (likely on October 16th), Broadus will host a cross-conference game against Ekalaka. Details were still being finalized for game day and time as of press time, as refs and schedules were not yet confirmed.
