Lady Hawks Go 3 For 3 In Volleyball Action

The Broadus Lady Hawk varsity volleyball team won three matches in a row over the week. The team traveled to Wibaux on Friday night, facing a Wibaux team which had come into the weekend with an 0-2 record. Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer told us that despite Wibaux's record, they're always a competitive team to play, especially at Wibaux. Nonetheless, the Lady Hawks laid their talons into the Lady Longhorns early in the match, and kept up the pressure to win in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, and 25-10. Lauryn Billing led the Lady Hawks in serves, completing 12 out of 12, as well as leading in assists, with 15, and digs, with five. Zeason Schaffer had 12 kills in the match, while Lucinda Cain and Aspen Krantz each had 1.5 blocks.

On Saturday, Broadus hosted both Plevna and Savage. In conference action in the first match against Plevna, Broadus came out and easily handled the opposition. Archer told us that Plevna seemed to be a little less competitive in Broadus than when they played in Plevna; perhaps their energetic home crowd helped bolster the team, and that support was not as significant on the road.

Broadus won the first two sets 25-7 and 25-10, and in the third set Archer subbed in a majority of JV girls. The younger Lady Hawks played well, falling behind but fighting back for the win, and walking away with the victory.

"I was proud of how the younger girls were able to come back to win the match for the team," Archer commented on the match's finale, which ended in a score of 25-18.

The Lady Hawks' last match of the weekend was against Savage, in a non-conference match featuring a scrappy team Archer thought compared well with Jordan, which Broadus faced three times earlier this season.

"I was proud of the girls, as they came out against Savage and played their best volleyball of the weekend," he said. "I was really pleased with how the entire team played."

Broadus won against Savage in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-18, and 25-12.

The Lady Hawks next test will come this Friday as they host Terry. The Lady Terriers have beaten Wibaux and Ekalaka so far this season, and look to be much improved from years past. Action will begin at 3:00 with the junior high B team, followed by JH A, JV, and the Varsity scheduled to begin tentatively at 6:30 pm.

On Saturday, the Lady Hawks will travel to Circle to try their meddle against the undefeated Circle Wildcats, with a 3-0 overall record, and 2-0 conference record. Broadus currently has a 4-1 overall record, and 3-1 in the conference.
