Broadus Welcomes Four New Teachers - Ashley Fleming

Four teachers have taken on new roles with Broadus Schools this fall, including a JH/HS Math Teacher, a 4th Grade Teacher, a Shop Teacher, and a Title 1/8th Grade English Teacher. Filling those roles are a combination of experienced teachers and others just beginning their education careers. We sat down with the teachers to get to know them.

Ashley Fleming

Ashley Fleming is the new 4th grade teacher in Broadus, taking over the role for Diana Swenson, who is now teaching 1st graders following the retirement of Marilyn Emmons, last spring. Fleming brings 15 years of experience as an elementary educator to the classroom, having previously taught 2nd graders in Shepherd for three years before moving back to her childhood home of Wolf Point, where she taught in several roles for 12 years. Fleming was born and raised in Wolf Point, going on to attain an Elementary Education degree from MSU-Northern in Havre, with a minor in Reading.

Fleming moved to Broadus last year along with her husband, Jesse, and children Mesa (5th grade), and Cort (1st grade). Ashley tells us that the couple took over the family insurance business from her father, Clint Long, when he retired eight years ago. Fleming & Long Insurance opened a new location in Broadus in 2020, while still maintaining their Wolf Point location. Jesse Fleming, a native son of Broadus, saw an opportunity for the business in his hometown, and the couple made the decision to move due to a desire to raise their family

in a quiet, small town environment.

Ashley will be teaching the 13 students of the Broadus 4th grade class, along with an Early Childhood Education class online at Ft. Peck Community College.

Fleming told us that she is very happy to be here in Broadus, and was amazed at the welcome from the community when she moved here, both in welcoming her family to the town, and helping her transition into her role as a teacher here.
