The Powder River County Fair is in full swing this week with a schedule full of exhibits, activities and events for all ages, according to MSU Extension Agent Mary Rumph.
“Don’t miss what has become the main attraction, crowd pleasing Muddy Pig Wrestling at 6 pm, Thursday August 12th. Twenty-five, three member teams representing four age groups ranging in age from four-years-old to adult will compete for the fastest time of capturing their pig and placing it in a tub.
“It is so much fun to watch!” said one past Fair attendee while having a manicure at Bella Si last week. “Where do you grab the pig?” asked Tracy Thomas. “Any place you can!” answered Charlee Kuhbacher who has two children competing on two different teams and will be providing encouragement and humor as she emcees the action packed, fun-filled, messy event. “We should have a team next year!” was the talk at Bella Si.
Craig and Christine Appleman are to be credited with planning and executing the successful event…from growing the pigs to stirring the “muck” and all points in between. John and Jenny Olson are also “pork providers” and instrumental in bringing it all together.
A costume contest provides an additional opportunity for teams to demonstrate their creativity and rumor has it, they will be outrageous again this year.
Coolahan Builders, Lee & Missy Randall, Doug & Sandy Slovek, Broadus Music Boosters, Gali Ranch, Treasure State BBQ, and Gnerer Angus have donated to the fun-filled event.
If you want to truly see a “Small Town Throwdown”, the Powder River Fairgrounds is where the action is taking place during the Muddy Pig Wrestling…a fair number of pigs “win” the wrestling contest!
