Are you staying in town for the Labor Day Weekend but need something fun to do for an hour or two? Art & Soul will be hosting an art show and sale that promises to be a hit! They have been busy planning a show for members and friends that will be held in conjunction with the Horse Sale/Horse Show on September 3, 4, and 5. It will be held in the north end of the fairbarn at the fairgrounds here in Broadus. Friday evening’s opening and preview of art will feature a cheese and wine tasting.
There will be original art in many mediums, covering many subjects, all made by local artists. Framed art, prints, and cards by Gaylene Fortner, Ronda Gatlin, Kate Settle Ruland, Jan Stevens, Lana Smith, Connie Barnhart, Sonja Harrington, Alan and Dana Jimmerson, Ann Emmons, Emma Issacs, and others will be for sale. Bead artistry by Laura Lee Ulrich, decorative gourds by Karen Woodring, and jewelry, leatherwork, saddles, metal art, photography and other work by local artisans will be displayed and offered for sale.
A Children’s Art Contest will be held in conjunction, with the theme of “Art on the Range” and will be sponsored by Ward Gatlin Construction, Shilo and Karen Capp, and Art & Soul. It is open to local children grades 6 and under. Applications can be picked up at the Library.
But wait, there’s more! There will be a special drawing at the conclusion of the show, with each vendor donating an original piece of art to be combined into one giant prize. Don’t miss getting your chance at this amazing opportunity!
In other news, there are a couple of demonstrations planned for the near future. Member Connie Barnhart will give an art journaling demonstration in August, and in September member Susan Denson Jerke will be doing a demo on collage. July’s weather did not cooperate to have a plein air session as previously planned, but we hope to get one of these in before colder temperatures come.
We will again be sponsoring an award for Children’s Art at the upcoming Powder River County Fair, and also during the fair we are organizing a Sidewalk Art session for kids.
The next meeting will take place in the north end of the fairbarn on Thursday, August 5th at 6:00 pm.
