The annual Powder River County Fair “It’s Just a Small-Town Throwdown” will be held August 10th-13th (Tuesday through Friday). The 4-H Horse Show will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 9 am. The official kick-off for Fair will take place Tuesday evening at 5 pm with a Fair Parade featuring more than 25 floats followed by opening ceremonies dedicating the Fair to Andrew and Carlene Gaskill. The popular Rough Stock Challenge and Crazy Cowgirl Trick Riding will conclude the Tuesday activities.
Interview judging will take place on Wednesday for 4-H non-livestock exhibits. Open class exhibits can be dropped off Wednesday from 1–6 pm and before 9 am on Thursday. They will be judged on Thursday. All exhibits will be released on Friday afternoon at 5 pm.
The Big Sky Memorial Dog Trials are scheduled for Wednesday, beginning at 11 am and with the Top 12 Dog Trial scheduled for 4 pm. The Adventure Zone opens at 4 pm, the Wild Sheep Riding Calcutta begins at 5:30 pm; Stick Horse Duck Sorting at 6 pm and the Wild Sheep Riding at 7 pm will close out Wednesday’s activities.
The Working Horse Show will take place Thursday morning beginning at 8 am. The 4-H Swine Show will begin at 9 am, followed by the sheep and goat show at 1 pm and the poultry show at 3 pm. The Adventure Zone opens at 10 am and the Bumblebee Daycare Power Wheels Derby is scheduled for 10 am. The Watermelon Eating Contest is set for 11 am and Colleen Reinhardt Music of Medora at noon. At 1 pm, the Fun on the Go opens by the baseball field, Sidewalk Art by Art & Soul Artisans will take place at 2 pm and a Cornhole Tournament will be played under the tent at 3 pm. Back by popular demand, the big event of the evening, Muddy Pig Wrestling will begin at 6 pm.
Friday morning will begin with bum calf judging and the 4-H Beef Show at 8:30 am. The Adventure Zone will open at 10 am again and Molly Lloyd will have the Shining Star Storytime under the tent. Catch Savanna Weaver under the tent for Face Painting throughout the Fair. At 11 am, kids ages 4-12 can find Toys in the Sawdust. The Fire Department will be back this year with their BBQ at noon and Ted Elgin & Tedi Jo Williams will play some tunes during the BBQ. Fun on the Go will open at 1 pm next to the baseball field. The 4-H Round Robin competition is scheduled for 1 pm. Join us at 2 pm for the Cowboy Art & Poetry Roundup under the tent. The afternoon will conclude with the awards ceremony and the 4-H Livestock Auction at 4 pm.
The calcutta for the East Fork Ranch Rodeo will begin at 5:30 pm with rodeo action starting at 6 pm. A street dance featuring the Mickey Utley band will close out the Fair at 9 pm.
But wait, it isn’t over yet! Again, back by popular demand will be the Arm Brawl Tournament on Saturday, beginning with a weigh-in at 10 am and the tournament at 1 pm. Go muscles, go strong!
