Schaffer medals at State Track

Ten members of the Broadus Track Team competed at the State Meet, May 28th and 29th in Missoula. Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter wrote the following article about the team's performance at the State Meet.

Zeason Schaffer, freshman girl, qualified in four events for State track, and won a 6th place medal in the Long Jump on her first jump in trials at 15'9¾". She got 7th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 32'9", not as good as her state qualifying jump of 34'3" at District. I let her out of the 100M since it was her lesser event and she was in lane 10 (the slow lane), to concentrate on her jumps. It was not her day in the High Jump as they start at 4'6" instead of working up, although she made the height in practice both days.

The Boys 4x400M Relay came in at 3:51. All the team members ran under 60 second laps. With 3 of the 4 on the relay as freshman, we have a bright future there. It was a great effort and they beat 5 teams. Kyle Minow also got a 7th place in the javelin with a throw of 139'7". It was a good throw and he just got edged out of a medal. His shot put was less than usual, but he ran a great 400M in the 4x400M Relay.

Our team is young and I'm proud of their state efforts.

Thanks to the athletes, parents, Assistant Coach DrewAnn Gatlin and all who helped with our team and also thanks to those who took pictures.

We need to continue to improve and get a few more students out for track. Have a great summer!
