Ten advance to State Track Meet

A strong contingent of Broadus athletes qualified for the State Meet at last weekend’s Divisional Meet in Laurel. Jaxon Bilbrey, 9th grader, qualified in the 400 meter with a fifth place finish, as well as the 4x400 meter relay with fellow freshmen Matt Hansen and Eli Heacock. Kyle Minow also qualified for the 4x400, as well as placing 4th in the Javelin and 6th in the Shot Put to advance to State. Heacock also qualified for State with a 4th in the 1600 and a 5th place finish in the 800.

9th grader Brandon Rogers achieved a personal record in the 3200 to advance to State, while Tytan Hanson moves on with a second place in the Discus, throwing 113’ 3”.

All four members of the girls team will advance to State, with Taylor Hanson advancing with a 6th in the Discus, Abigail Martin a 6th in the Javelin, Rachel Rasmussen a personal record in the 3200 for third place, and Zeason Schaffer continuing her winning streak with firsts in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, a second in the High Jump, and a 6th place finish in the 100 meter dash.

“It was a good experience for us at Divisionals”, Broadus Track Coach Jerry Coulter commented on the meet. “We had 14 kids on the team, so to be able to qualify 10 for State – I’ll take that percentage every time.”

Looking forward to the State Meet, this Friday and Saturday in Missoula, Coulter says that the competition will be exceptionally tough, but he’s looking forward to the challenge.

The team left Wednesday after school to begin the long journey across the state, stopping in Bozeman Wednesday night and practicing on the track Thursday before competing on Friday and Saturday.

Coulter finished up: “Kudos to the kids who made it to State. That’s a great accomplishment and something no one can take away from you.”
