The Broadus Hawk Golf Team competed in two competitions last week, hosting a dual against Fairview on Wednesday, with the Varsity competing in Colstrip on Friday.
The weather last Wednesday was quite lovely for a round of golf, especially following the cold of the previous day. The competitors, some clad in shorts and enjoying the sun, played an 18 hole match style game, with Broadus Varsity players going head to head with Fairview players. According to Broadus Head Golf Coach Chad Gatlin, Broadus players who won their matches included Colton Biesheuvel, Emma Isaacs, Wyatt Gee, Kortny Cathey, and Paysen Kuhbacher. Other Varsity competitors included Aspen Krantz, Joziah Brost, Lauryn Billing, and Graci Barbero.
Wyatt Gee and Emma Isaacs both qualified for State in Broadus, with Gee golfing a 99 and Isaacs a 107. Boys need a 100 or lower score to qualify; girls a 120 or lower.
The weather for the Colstrip match was significantly different than that of the Broadus Dual, with a late start due to the snow and cold.
"Colstrip is a tough course during good weather," Gatlin commented.
Despite the treacherous conditions, Lauryn Billing put on an impressive performance, qualifying for State with a 115.
The scoring system used this year has been taking a longer than usual time to process through the system, and Chad did not yet have the scores for us from Colstrip when we spoke to him Monday. We will print them as they become available.
Due to the cold and snow in the forecast, the competition this week for the Broadus golfers in Baker has been cancelled. Next Tuesday, the golfers travel to Sidney.
Four Broadus golfers are now qualified for State, including the three who qualified last week mentioned earlier in the article, as well as Joziah Brost, who qualified earlier in the season.
