COVID-19 vaccinations ramping up across MT

As of Tuesday, 73 Powder River County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state’s new COVID-19 vaccination dashboard. The dashboard shows the number of total doses administered throughout the state, broken down by county. By Tuesday morning, 77,739 doses of the vaccine had been given in Montana, while 14,704 Montanans had received the second dose, and were considered fully immunized. That means 64,035 Montanans have received at least one dose of the vaccine, or 7.3% of the eligible population, per the numbers gleaned from the dashboard.

The vaccination dashboard shows that Powder River County’s 73 doses out of 1,431 eligible members of the population works out to 51.0 doses per 1,000 people. In comparison, neighboring Carter County has administered 109.7 doses per 1000 residents, and Custer County has administered 87.6 doses per 1000 residents. Yellowstone County has given 13,918 doses, which works out to 109.0 doses per 1,000, as their 127,729 eligible residents will take some time to vaccinate. The lowest number of vaccinations per county as of Tuesday was in Judith Basin County (with a county seat of Stanford), with 31.2 per thousand, while the highest was Blaine County (Chinook being the county seat), where 233.6 per 1000 eligible residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Powder River County will hold another COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic this Thursday. Future clinics will be announced when more vaccine becomes available, according to Powder River County Public Health Nurse Darlynn Williams. Residents are encouraged to call the clinic to add their names to the list for upcoming vaccinations. The County is currently vaccinating those in the Phase 1B category, which includes those aged 70 and older, and those aged 16 to 69 with high risk medical conditions. Phase 1C will follow, including those age 60 and older, those age 16 to 59 with elevated risk of complications, and frontline essential workers.

A sixth COVID-19 related death was listed in Powder River County on Sunday. The death was among 37 reported statewide on Sunday, which came from Montana DPHHS reconciliation of death records over the past month.
