Lockwood out with jaw injury

Jess Lockwood, two time World PBR Bull Riding Champ and Powder River County native, stepped on his first bull of the 2021 season, last Saturday at the PBR Monster Energy Invitational in Ocala, Florida. The first ride, atop Detroit Lean, did not take long, as Lockwood took a horn to the face from the bull, and was bucked off in 2.75 seconds.

The injury resulted in a broken jaw, and a setback for the rider’s season. Lockwood is no stranger to injury, having missed a good portion of last year’s season with a torn hamstring. Lockwood has missed 37 major series events since joining the PBR in 2015, on his 18th birthday. He has since suffering injuries including broken ribs, a punctured lung, shoulder separation, lacerated kidney, and a torn groin, to go along with last season’s hamstring and the recent jaw injury.

Despite the setbacks, Lockwood was still able to win world titles in 2017, and again in 2019.

Jess will undergo surgery to fix the injury, and he expects to return to competition in February. The season is around 10 months long, with a wide variety of chances to make up points, so Jess has plenty of time to rest, recover, and climb back on for another ride.
