Letters to the Editor

My young warrior,

Wrestling is not for the faint of heart, but for those that accept the challenge, the rewards are so great. In practice a wrestler is conditioned to the point of total exhaustion knowing that is what is necessary to be able to wrestle up to 4 matches a day with only 45 minutes between matches.

I’m no longer coaching. Frankie Schoonover is and has been the head coach for the last few years, with me being an assistant coach. The wrestling program is in good hands with a few wrestling alumni now assisting him.

Proud to say that the Hawk wrestling program has produced a number of State wrestling champions as well as a significant number of state place finishers over the years, some of those during my tenure. Their names and pictures are in the trophy case.

Being a champion is only a decision made and a willingness to put in the hard work and dedication to reach that goal.

Few people in our community know that little small town of Broadus has produced 3 college All-American wrestlers on the small college level. To get to that level you have to finish in the top 8 nationwide. Am proud to say they all wrestled during my tenure. Their names are Micah Mathieson, Eleno Vallejo, and Frankie Schoonover. Winning as I said is only a decision made, as one of those 3 was a college walk-on.

I would truly like to express my sincere appreciation to the Broadus High School for allowing me to coach. Bill Alderman
