Gale Fritzy 'Skip" Sturdevant was born July 22nd, 1947 to his parents Lewis and Jane Sturdevant as the only child.
Skip joined the Navy in 1965 and served two tours in Vietnam. While home from a tour, he met and married Patricia (Peckham) in 1970. Together they made their home in Wisconsin, where they welcomed the births of 4 daughters.
The family moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1983. Five years later the son Skip waited for was born in 1988. Skip enjoyed the outdoors in Wyoming, taking the family fishing, and hunting, which included not only wildlife - there were adventurous snake hunting, and many other outdoor activities. Skip was also always ready to play a good card game - his favorites were eucher, cribbage, and poker. Skip was full of humor; he either had a joke or riddle to tell or was pulling a prank on someone.
The family made their final move to Broadus, Montana in 1997. Skip loved the Montana outdoors more than Wyoming; he could not wait to go scouting with a dear friend and son to look for the best hunt. Even in his final days, he was able to look out the living room window and watch the deer in the yard and would tell Victor "get that buck."
Skip passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his side. He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant daughter (Sonya), aunts and uncle (Carolyn Jolitz), Victor and (Elvira) Moldenhauer. Skip is survived by his wife of 50 years Pat Sturdevant, daughters Carolyn Sturdevant, Irene (Lyle) Hoppe, Rebecca (Chuck) George, only son Victor (Miranda) Sturdevant, 10 grandkids and 7 great grand kids, all of whom he was very fond of.
A family gathering with military honors will take place in June.
The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Rosary for the care and support for Skip. Special thanks to all the med-surg staff and respiratory staff at HRH. Very special thank you to Miranda, Skip's daughter in law for going above and beyond for the care and support provided.
