The VFW Auxiliary held a combined October, November meeting November 5, 2020.
Our District 6 Auxiliary President, Joby Parker, made the annual inspection visit to our Auxiliary #1595. At this time she brought the District 6 Treasurer’s book to newly elected District 6 Treasurer, our own Ginger Bird. We’re proud to have you in that position.
Several members reported providing homemade refreshments for the Post Halloween party.
Buddy Poppy Chairman, Pat Hanlan, reported on Buddy Poppy activity. In spite of COVID, she has done some successful promotions. We appreciate your loyalty and efforts, Pat.
Pat Hanlan also reported on plans for Veteran’s Day. It couldn’t be done in the usual way but she and a committee of Nina Schaffer, Sue Richards and Karen Amende will put together decorations for the nursing home and work with the staff to get them put up. (Update – they did do this and also gave a shawl made and donated by June Ray to a resident veteran. These are patriotic in color and so soft and warm.) Some members sent articles to the paper or wrote letters to the editor to recognize our veterans.
The members voted to not have a December meeting or Christmas gathering. A decision about a January meeting will be made as the time gets closer.
Our last order of business was to present our District 6 President, Joby Parker, with one of June Ray’s patriotic prayer shawls and to share the story of this being a personal mission of June’s to bring warmth and caring to our veterans as a way of saying thank you for all you’ve done. President Parker was very touched. Thank you June for such a special way of caring.
Well ladies, until next year be safe and healthy through the holidays. Be sure to sanitize the chimney so Santa doesn’t get COVID, and leave him a new mask with his cookies.
