MSU Extension Office to Collect Old Prescription Glasses in November

By PR Extension Office

Do you have old prescription eyeglasses sitting around your house? Now is your chance to get rid of them. Drop off old prescription eyeglasses at the MSU Extension Office through the month of November.

The eyeglasses will either be reused or recycled, it all depends on the condition of the lenses and frames. If the lenses are extremely scratched, then the frames are sent to a recycling business that extracts precious metals, and the lenses are sent to an eyeglass company in Canada that grinds them for new lenses. If the glasses are readers; they are sent to Senior Citizen Centers and Libraries to help people read. If they are prescription glasses in good condition, the glasses are sent to third world countries for people in need.

Bottom line is, you can drop off old eyeglasses in any condition and they will be reused or recycled. Contact the MSU Extension Office at 436-2424, for more information.
