The Broadus Hawk Varsity Football team finished out their season last week with two home games, on Tuesday against the Circle Wildcats, and Friday night against the Forsyth Dogies. Cold conditions both games made for an added challenge for fans, officials, and players alike, with few complaints overheard about the need for COVID face coverings on the field – a mask helped guard the nose from the cold!
The Hawks were hampered by a safety early against Circle, but kept the game close through the third quarter, helped by long catches and runs from Wyatt Gee to Solomon Bradley and Jaxon Bilbrey. Circle was able to pull away in the 4th quarter, winning 50-20 over the Hawks.
On Friday against Forsyth, the Hawks were able to pull out a victory 18-8, with the help of their defense. Broadus Coach Ross Randall told us "Our defense really won the game for us. They played well and Cass [Zimmer] did a great job coaching the defense, not only this game but throughout the year."
The Hawks finish the season with a 3-5 record, for 6th in the conference out of nine teams. Teams advancing to playoff include Scobey at first in the conference, Fairview second, MonDak third, and Ekalaka fourth. Other teams include Circle fifth, Broadus sixth, Plentywood seventh, Forsyth eighth, and Culbertson ninth.
The Hawks lose two key starters this year, with Kyle Minow and Gavin Severeide graduating. Coach Randall thanked both players for their years of dedication to the program, as well as his coaching staff and team for their hard work through the season.
The Hawks look to improve in the future, with a strong talent base of young players steadily progressing and looking forward to next season.
Our goal is to have season stats in a future issue.
The Hawk JV team played at Forsyth on Monday, falling 16-42.
