Cross Country Runs in Miles City, Colstrip

The Broadus Lady Hawk Cross Country team ran at the Miles City Invitational on Saturday, October 3rd, and then at Colstrip on Thursday, October 8th. In Miles City, two of the five Broadus runners set personal records – Rheanna Schroeder with a 24:11, and Abigail Martin with a 27:48. Other times included Rachel Rasmussen with a 24:44, Lea Aye with a 25:45, and Lacey Robinson with a 34:13.

The Colstrip Invite took place at the Ponderosa Butte Golf Course in Colstrip. Broadus times included Rachel Rasmussen with a 26:19, Lea Aye with a 26:35, Rheanna Schroeder with a 29:03, and Lacey Robinson with a 33:26.

The team will round out their season on Saturday, October 24th at the State Meet in Kalispell. Kalispell is around 630 miles from Broadus, which will make for a long drive – by comparison, Minneapolis is around 670 miles from Broadus by the most direct route.

All five girls on the team qualified for State, meaning each will compete individually, and the top three times will be used for the team score. A runner receives the number of points coinciding to the number of their placement; for instance the first runner receives one point, the twentieth runner 20 points. The lowest number of points for a team determines the winner. An interesting aspect of this scoring system is that even if a competitor doesn’t make their team’s top three, they may still affect the race, because if they beat any of the top three runners from a different team, they increase that other team’s score.
