A smoke tendril from the Burley Fire drifts over the landscape last week, as the sun rises through smoky skies in the background. The blaze began last Tuesday from a bale hauling truck which caught fire, the wind then sent the flames racing down the Rough Creek/Cache Creek divide, southwest of Broadus. Broadus VFD firefighters and a plethora of locals were the first on hand to help fight fire, and were later aided by firefighters from neighboring counties. Federal resources on hand included a number of engines and aerial assets, including heavy bombers and a helicopter. The blaze consumed 3364 acres in total, and was 100% contained on October 10th.
