Lady Hawk Volleyball Team Travels to Circle, Hosts Forsyth

The Lady Hawk volleyball team played two matches last weekend, traveling to Circle on Friday, and playing their first home match against Class B Forsyth on Saturday.

Circle is one of the tougher teams in the conference, and they showed their tenacity on Friday, as they beat the Lady Hawks in three straight sets. Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer said that the Lady Hawks may have come out a bit tentative, but gained some momentum late in the first set. Broadus would lose that set 12-25, but roared back in the second set to come very close to a win, losing 26-28.

"We had opportunities to win the second set, but we couldn't quite make it happen," Archer said.

Broadus also came close in the third set, losing 21-25.

"I think we found out we could play at Circle's level, so we'll just have to take advantage of that confidence when they come down here to play," Archer added.

In JV and Junior High action, Circle JV beat Broadus JV: 25-8, 22-25, 15-9, 15-9. Circle JH A beat Broadus JH A 25-22, 25-13. Circle JH B beat Broadus JH B 25-14, 25-13, 15-11.

On Saturday, Broadus hosted Forsyth. The young Broadus team may have had some "first home game" jitters, as they made some mistakes that Forsyth was able to capitalize on, but overall Broadus hung with the Lady Dogies, though they weren't able to string together enough of a run for a win.

Forsyth beat Broadus in three sets, 12-25, 19-25, and 20-25.

In JV and Junior High action, Broadus JV beat Forsyth JV: 25-16, 25-15, 15-10. Broadus JH A beat Forsyth JH A: 13-25, 25-16, 15-12. Broadus JH B beat Forsyth JH B: 25-19, 25-10, 15-7.

Archer summed up the weekend matches: "Overall I think this weekend was a good learning experience for us. We saw the level we need to play at to win, and now we need to put in the hard work to make it happen."

The Lady Hawks will put some miles on the bus this weekend, traveling to Wibaux on Friday, and Jordan on Saturday. The Lady Hawks will leave mid-morning Friday, return around midnight, then leave again Saturday morning for the trip to Garfield County.
