The VFW Auxiliary Post 1595 in Broadus has sponsored the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest at our Powder River County District High School for many years. This year the VFW Auxiliary awarded cash prizes to the top three winners from the 2019-2020 school year.
Tate Page received 3nd place in the district for his patriotic drawing of Mount Rushmore and the flag.
Lainee Barbero received 2nd place at the district level. She also received a cash award and 3rd place at the state level for her drawing of her great-grandfather, Charlie Barbero.
Savannah Weaver received 1st place in the district for her watercolor portrait of a relative who served in the military. Savannah's artwork also received 2nd place and a cash award at the state level.
The Montana winning artwork went on to compete in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest at the national level this last summer for scholarships totaling over $30,000.
