PR County Records First COVID-19 Case

Powder River County has recorded its first COVID-19 case, with a local individual testing positive in mid-July. The official release did not state details about the individual, but we’ve independently verified the case as a female in her 30s, who acquired the virus on an out of state trip. In a press release from July 23, Powder River Health confirmed that the individual began showing symptoms on July 16th, and contact tracing identified individuals who had close contact with the patient.

As of this Tuesday, the case has recovered, and close contacts have also tested negative, with isolation for those contacts expiring this week.

Powder River County Health Officer Sean Hill commented during a phone call Tuesday that he was glad to see no further cases stem from the county’s first positive, but now that we know COVID is in our community, we need to be especially diligent about protecting our susceptible population.

He also commented that we should now look ahead to the fair and keeping people safe through the use of social distancing, proper hand sanitation, and mask usage when the situation dictates.
