1990 Fairbook dedicated to Gary and Beverly Green
The 1990 Powder River County Fairbook is dedicated to Gary and Beverly Green of the Stacey Community.
Gary is the son of Loy and Evelyn Green. He spent his entire life on the family ranch near Volborg. Beverly, the daughter of Dwight and Alice Riley, was raised on a ranch in the Knowlton area. They were married in October of 1957 in Miles City.
They raised six children on the ranch on Little Pumpkin Creek. Emily and Jim Madsen have four children, and live and work on the main Green Ranch. Donna Mae and Jerry Homan live in Miles City. They have two children.
Larry has his home on the family ranch. Tammy is married to Rene Cruz and lives in Mesa, Arizona. They have one child.
Becky, recently married to Tracy Anderson, lives on the Green’s Tongue River Ranch. Kathleen is in the 8th grade at Horkan Creek School.
Beverly enjoys sewing, gardening and canning. In recent years, she has taken up raising pigs as a pastime (a project which got started due to Gary’s enthusiastic support of the 4-H Livestock Sale). During the 11 years that she has been a 4-H leader, she has been active with the Dress Revue, the Make It with Wool Contest and has put in many hours working at the Little Levi Rodeo. As an active member of the Custer Forest Homemakers, she has at one time or another held all offices in the club.
Gary was a 4-H member for many years and was the first county recipient of a calf scramble heifer (donated by the Randall Ranch). He has been a strong supporter of the calf scramble program as a consistent donor or purebred Angus heifers. He was a 4-H leader for a number of years and has remained ready to help the youngsters with any project. He has served on a number of 4-H committees. Recently he expanded his help to the 4-H’ers of Custer County by helping to found a calf scramble program for their county. Gary is also chairman of the District 94 school board, and is a member of the Stacey Trap Club, the American Angus Association, and the Stacey Roping Club.
The youth of the Stacey Community and Powder River County owe a great deal to the couple, as they have hosted 4-H exchange students, hosted or supplied animals for judging and showmanship clinics, and provided 4-H’ers with pigs, heifers and steers. They are always willing workers at the fair and any community project.
In appreciation for the many years of service Beverly and Gary have provided to their community and their county, we are pleased to dedicated this fairbook to them.

Fred Hulford wins snowmobile
It may be the middle of the summer now, but Fred Hulford of Broadus will be ready for winter fun thanks to Miller Brewing Company. Hulford is the winner of a new snowmobile thanks to Miller High Life and Arctco Inc.’s promotion, “Make Tracks for Miller High Life.”
The regional promotion took place last winter in 21 states and the winners recently were announced. An Arctic Cat snowmobile was given away to a Miller High Life consumer in each state through state-wide drawings.
Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club has invited a mobile fabric store to come to Broadus on July 28th, 2020. They will set up on the East side of the Powder River Historical Museum at 10 AM and close at 6 PM.
The Wayward Quilters Halfway House from Circle, MT decided to set up a 30' trailer with quilting cottons, batiks, flannel, minky, 108" wide backing, batting, and patterns to serve communities that do not have access to a local quilting store.
Partners, Carla Huseby and Kylene Gackle are the duo that contacted the local quilt club to see if there would be interest in them coming to Broadus. The Quilt Club members were favorable to the idea,
as July 28th is the date of the next Quilt Club meeting.
Area Quilters and Sewing Enthusiasts are welcome to come and shop. Wearing a mask and social distancing will be your option. They come from an area that does not have Covid-19, as we are.
The Quilt Club meeting will be held at the Election Room at the Court House at 1:30 PM on July 28th. We will be social distancing at the meeting. Visitors are welcome.
