Weather for March was Mild, April Starts Out Cold

The weather for the month of March was quite mild in Powder River County, especially in comparison to 2019.

This year in Broadus, the high temperature for the month of 71 was recorded on March 6th. On that very same date in 2019, the temperature dipped down to -14, which was far from the coldest temp felt in March of 2019. A record low for March: -36, was recorded on March 3rd of 2019.

All told there were 8 days in March of 2019 with below zero low temps. This year, there were none. The low temperature for the month, 10 degrees, was recorded on both the 20th and 21st of March. That's a difference of 46 degrees in low temps from last year!

Precipitation in Broadus during the month of March came in at .34", with .21" falling on March 12th. The normal for the month is .88".

Around the county temps and precipitation were fairly consistent.

The Biddle 7 miles SW station saw a high for the month at 70 on March 7th, with a low of 10 on the 20th. This station received a paltry .17" of precip for the month, compared to a normal of .94".

The Moorhead 9 miles NW station had a high for the month of 71, on March 7th, with a low of 13 on the 17th. Precip for the month was .22", compared to a normal .73".

The Powderville 8 miles NNE station had a high of 73 on the 7th, and a low of 10 on the 20th. This station received .14" of precip on the month, compared to a normal of .80".

The Sonnette 7 miles SW station had a high of 66 on the 7th, with a low of 10 on the 17th. As is often the case, this station was the wettest in the area, with .66" of precip, compared to a normal .91".

While March was mild, April began a bit differently. The low temperature on April 3 of -1 in Broadus blew the old record out of the water. The previous record: 6 degrees, was recorded in 2002 and 2018. -7 was the coldest temp recorded at an official weather station in the county on April 3; the reading was taken at the Biddle 8 miles SW station.
