Basketball Season Stats

Gee, Kuhbacher make Hawk record books

With basketball season in the rearview mirror, spring sports cancelled, and fall sports still a glimmer on the horizon, we went back and looked at the basketball season stats for individual players. We went through Hudl, the online stat service used by Broadus Schools, to come up with the stats, and see where some of the Hawks stand on the all-time Broadus record books for their careers.

Boys

The Broadus Hawk boys team finished the season 11-13 overall, winning one game at the Divisional Tournament before losing out.

Overall as a team, the boys had a 41.2% effective field goal percentage on the season, while shooting 27.4% from beyond the three point line as a team. The team as a whole sunk 59.3% of their free throws, and averaged 55.9 points per game. The Broadus boys brought down 65.9% of potential defensive rebounds, and 36.9% of offensive rebounds.

These stats compare favorably with their opponents, who scored an average of 51.1 points per game.

Tayden Gee led the Hawks in scoring, with 272 points on the season. He also led the team in rebounds and blocks, with 239 and 20, respectively.

Gee led the Hawks in points per game, with 11.3 on the season.

Tayden will go down as the 17th highest leading scorer in Hawk history, with 663 career points. Shawn Samuelson currently sits atop the career points list, with an impressive 2146 career points. Shawn currently sits at 12th all time in career points in the state of Montana, across all classes of basketball. His career spanned from 1989-1992.

Tayden Gee’s 674 career rebounds also place him at 4th in Hawk rebounds, following Shawn Samuelson with 1374, and Cody Samuelson with 934.

Gee was named District 6C 2nd team All-Conference, and also made the Senior Classic All-Star team this season.

Head Coach Mike Richards has been updating the record books, and is still looking for a number of years – for instance Jerry Lei currently is listed as having 508 points, but three years of stats from when he played are missing. Richards asks that anyone who has stat information to please contact him.

No doubt the move from Class B to Class C will affect the record books in the future, as players have the potential to play at the Varsity level for more years than previous stars of the court.

Another Senior Hawk making the record books was Beau Kuhbacher. His 101 career three point field goals made ranks third in the all-time list, behind Kevin Bird, with 120 from the 2000-2003 seasons, and Chad Harrington, with 105, from 1988 to 1990.

Beau shot 29.3% from three point range this season, dropping 48 through the net. He had 240 points on the season for second on the team, as well as 110 rebounds. Kuhbacher averaged 10 points per game over the season.

Beau also made the 2nd team All-Conference list this season.

Freshman Point Guard Marcus Mader had a stellar year, averaging 9.9 points per game, contributing 238 points to the team, bringing down 114 rebounds, and leading the team with 71 steals, while also contributing an impressive 111 assists on the season. Mader shot 68.1% from the free throw line this season.

Johnny Richards scored 239 points on the season, as well as 49 assists and 39 steals. Richards led the team in three point percentage, sinking 56 out of 184 for 30.4%.

Dillon Gee scored 206 points, came in second on the team in rebounds with 125, and second in blocks with 16 on the season.

Wyatt Gee pulled down 72 rebounds in 363 minutes of playing time, compared to the 600 plus minutes of playing time of some of the starters. Wyatt also had 17 steals, 42 assists, and 6 blocks during this time.

Senior Hawk Aaron Rogers had 23 steals, 5 blocks and 97 rebounds on the season as well as 33 assists.

Solomon Bradley had only 111 minutes of playing time on the season, but managed to go 5 for 7 from the free throw line, bring down 7 rebounds, and contributed 7 assists and 7 steals.

Aidan Kennelly didn’t see much playing time this season, with 34 minutes over six games, but he did manage 8 rebounds and 3 assists during his time.
